Africa Afya Healthcare

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about AfyaRad

What exactly is AfyaRad?

AfyaRad is a teleradiology marketplace. Hospitals and imaging centres upload their DICOM studies and receive structured, signed radiology reports from credentialed, licensed radiologists within hours. There is no subscription. You pay per study.

Does Africa Afya Healthcare own the AfyaRad platform?

Yes. AfyaRad is wholly owned by Africa Afya Healthcare Limited, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. It is our proprietary platform built specifically for African healthcare infrastructure.

Who can use AfyaRad?

Hospitals, clinics and imaging centres that need radiology reports can submit studies through AfyaRad. Licensed radiologists who want to read studies remotely can apply to join the network. Referring clinicians receive completed reports without needing their own account.

How does a hospital get started?

Contact us through the website. We set up your facility account, walk you through the upload process in a 20-minute session, and your first study can be submitted the same day. No hardware changes are required beyond your existing scanners and internet connection.

How much does a report cost?

Pricing is per study and depends on modality and turnaround time. X-ray reports start from KES 800, ultrasound from KES 1,200, CT from KES 2,500 and MRI from KES 3,500. Volume discounts apply for facilities submitting more than 100 studies per month. Contact us for an exact quote.

How fast will I receive a report?

STAT and emergency studies are reported within 2 hours. Urgent studies within 6 hours. Routine studies within 24 hours. The turnaround level is selected when you upload the study.

Is patient data safe and compliant?

Yes. AfyaRad is aligned with the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019. All DICOM files and reports are encrypted in transit and at rest. Patient identifiers are managed using KHUID conventions. Full audit trails are maintained and Data Processing Agreements are available for every partner facility.

How are the radiologists verified?

Every radiologist on the AfyaRad network is credentialed and licensed before reading any live study. We verify registration, subspecialty and reporting history. Quality assurance processes including discrepancy tracking are part of how the platform works.

Does AfyaRad use AI?

Yes. AI on AfyaRad assists radiologists rather than replacing them. Features include AI-assisted triage to surface critical cases first, structured reporting templates, voice transcription that learns each radiologist's style, and automated prioritisation of urgent findings. Radiologists remain fully responsible for every report.

Will it work on our internet connection?

Yes. AfyaRad is built for African network conditions. DICOM files are compressed for upload and the platform queues uploads if connectivity drops mid-transfer. It works reliably on 3G and 4G connections.

Can AfyaRad integrate with our existing PACS or RIS?

Yes. AfyaRad is DICOM-compliant and HL7-ready. It works alongside most existing PACS, RIS and HMIS systems. No vendor lock-in and no rip-and-replace required.

How are payments handled?

Payments are processed through PesaPal and support M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Visa, Mastercard and bank transfer. Invoices are issued in Kenyan Shillings. Facilities can pay per study or purchase prepaid study bundles.

How do I join the AfyaRad radiologist network?

Contact us through the website and select the radiologist option. We will send you the onboarding form, verify your credentials within one to two business days, and schedule a platform walkthrough. You set your own availability and subspecialty preferences.
